NORFOLK, VA – First team all-conference forward Deja Winters canned a corner 3-pointer with :03 seconds left to give North Carolina A&T a thrilling 59-57 win over Howard in a battle of top seeds in the women's Mid Eastern Athletic Conference tournament championship game at the Scope Arena Saturday.

The game-winner came after Howard sophomore point guard Iyanna Warren, who led the Lady Bison with 21 points, could not convert on two free throws with :11 seconds left and Howard up 57-56. The Lady Aggies ran down the clock before Winters launched her game-winner.meac 50th logo

After a timeout, Warren got off a running shot at the buzzer that was no good.

Howard (15-4), the top seed from the Northern Division and North Carolina A&T (14-2), the top seed from the South, had staged a battle befitting their high ranking and status. Howard won the first quarter 19-10 before NC A&T outscored the Lady Bison 21-8 to lead 31-27 at the break. Howard prevailed in the third quarter 17-13 to send the teams into the final quarter tied at 44.

Howard went up on a layup by Warren with 8:27 left and led for the rest of the period until Winter's game winner. Winters, who finished with 15 points, had hit on a 3-pointer in Howard's next-to-last possession which pulled the Lady Aggies to within 57-56 with :50 seconds left. 

Six-three senior center Jayla Jones-Pack, who had a team-high 16 points in the title game, was named the tournament's most outstanding player. Chanin Scott finished with 12 points and led the Lady Aggies with 11 rebounds. 

MEAC Player of the Year Howard senior Jayla Thornton, had 12 points all on 3-pointers.

The Lady Aggies will advance to the Women's NCAA Tournament to be held in San Antonio, Texas.
