The Tornadoes will be adding men's and women's cross country to its sports for the upcoming year, the first time the school will offer the distance sport. Talladega will join fellow Gulf Coast Athletic Conference schools Dillard, Xavier, Tougaloo, Edward Waters and Southern University at New Orleans in offering the program. Talladega will also offer women's soccer for the 2017-2018 season, the first time the school has offered the sport since 2014.

"The Talladega Athletic Departments prides itself on recruiting student-athletes that can compete on a high level in the classroom and in their respective sports," said Talladega College interim Athletic Director Kevin Herod. "We feel that adding Talladega men's and women's cross country and women's soccer will bring another avenue of quality student-athletes to our athletic program and our institution."

With the addition of Talladega, the GCAC will now receive an automatic qualifier spot to National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics cross country nationals.

"We're extremely proud to see Talladega adding cross country and soccer for the upcoming year," said GCAC Commissioner Steve Martin. "It's always good to see GCAC member institutions sponsor additional sports. This is another indication that the GCAC is experiencing strong growth and makes for a better experience for all student-athletes in the conference."

The Tornadoes cross country season is set to kick off in August.
