george brightElizabeth City State University’s athletic director for almost four years is no longer with the university.

George Bright has parted ways with ECSU effective immediately, Chancellor Karrie Dixon said in a campus-wide email Thursday.

“I’m writing to inform you of a personnel change in the Department of Athletics,” Dixon said.

Bright was introduced as ECSU’s new athletic director in July 2018. Before ECSU, Bright worked as director of athletics and recreation at Moravian College, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania from 2015 to 2017.

The chancellor’s email does not cite a reason for Bright’s departure. But it does wish him well.

“Please join me in wishing him well in his future endeavors,” Dixon said.

Gary Brown, ECSU’s vice chancellor for student affairs, will serve as interim athletics director until a permanent director is appointed.

Derrick Wilkins, ECSU’s vice chancellor and chief of staff, said because Bright’s departure was a personnel matter, the university could not provide additional comment.

“As this is a personnel matter, there is no additional information to provide,” Wilkins said.
