CHARLOTTE, NC - Johnson C. Smith University has named Oralia Washington as Sports Information Director in the University Communications and Marketing department.Washington
Washington comes to JCSU after spending the last three years as Sports Information Director at Livingstone College. She will be responsible for media coverage, game operations and maintaining statistical information for JCSU’s 15 sport teams and the Athletics department.
Prior to Livingstone, Washington served as assistant sports information director at Alabama A&M University from 2010 to 2015. She worked at her alma mater, St. Paul’s College, on two occasions – as SID from 2001 to 2002 and as SID and public relations director from 2009 to 2010. Washington was assistant SID at N.C. Central University from 2007 to 2009 as the school transitioned to NCAA Division I.
Washington has served as press room coordinator for the CIAA Basketball Tournament and as a member of the CIAA Golf Committee. She was selected by the CIAA Commissioner to attend the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association workshop on governance in conjunction with NCAA Division II to prepare minority administrators for NCAA DII committee service in early June 2019.
A 2000 graduate of St. Paul’s College, Washington was a two-sport student-athlete in basketball and softball. She also coached basketball, softball and volleyball at St. Paul’s from 1999 to 2001.
She holds memberships in the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA) and the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association (MOAA).
Washington, is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Order of the Eastern Star.
