TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee University has announced the appointment of Jasher Cox as Assistant Athletics Director. The promotion was announced by Director of Athletics Willie Slater on Wednesday (Sept 6). Cox was originally hired to manage athletic communications this past spring and will now assist Slater and Deana Person with overseeing day to day operations within the department.jasher coxCox

In his new role, Cox will provide support for the Director of Athletics in external affairs through coordinating fundraising efforts, marketing, promotions, media relations and sports information. He will also assist in coordinating sports schedules and facilities. When appropriate, Cox will represent the university in matters involving the NCAA and SIAC.

"I could not think of a more qualified person to handle this job", Slater noted. "He's the perfect fit for what we are trying to accomplish at Tuskegee and I am excited that we have someone of his caliber in place".

Cox previously worked as the Assistant Commissioner of Communications and Broadcasting with the Horizon League in Indianapolis. His role there was to supervise the communications staff as well as the league's creation and deployment of all ESPN streaming content. He served as the primary liaison to all broadcasting partners ensuring contract fulfillment, broadcast oversight and quality control management. Along with Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and the Horizon League, Cox assisted in co-hosting the first and second rounds of the 2017 NCAA Men's Basketball Regional at Bankers Life Field House.

Before joining the Horizon League, Cox served as the Director of Communications at the Southwestern Athletic Conference. He managed all aspects of the SWAC Digital Network in addition to being the main communications contact for men's basketball, football and golf. He administered the entire media relations department and volunteers while also maintaining the official SWAC website and sponsorship packages. Cox assisted in restructuring the league's football media day which now has a live stream and radio row.

Prior to his role at the SWAC, Cox was the Athletics Communications Assistant at Alabama State University. He was the primary communications contact for men's basketball, soccer and softball. While at ASU, he launched all of the University's athletic social media platforms and initiated effective social media tactics for coaches and student-athletes within the programs.
