WASHINGTON, D.C. – Athletic Director Kery Davis has announced the addition of seven members to the Howard University athletic department staff.
Ariel Germain was named Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. She will oversee the departments marketing, fundraising and overall development and branding efforts. Germain previously worked at Howard in athletic communications. She rejoins the Bison staff after stints at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (The Division of Student Affairs Marketing and Communications Coordinator), Winston-Salem State University (Director for Athletic Marketing and Special Events) and The Catholic University of America (Assistant Athletic Director for Communications).
Kevin Campbell is the new Assistant Athletic Director for Budget and Administration. He will be responsible for oversight of budget and purchasing, travel and processing purchase orders and payment requests. He will also be charged with ensuring travel compliance with NCAA regulations and serve as liaison to various campus offices. Campbell spent three years at University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Danielle Diaz came on as an Athletic Trainer for the Bison. She is in charge of the medical care of the men's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's lacrosse teams. Prior to Howard, Diaz spent a year at Morgan State University as a certified athletic training intern.
Brittany Higgins will serve as a Compliance Officer after spending six years at Castleton University. She will help monitor initial and continuing eligibility and recruiting practices for Howard's 17 sports.
Johnathan Katona is the Assistant Director of Operations – Equipment. He will oversee all facets of equipment management, including purchasing, inventory and supervision of staff. Katona previously worked for Separation Sports Management, supervising all aspects of equipment operations for various AAU teams, Nike EYBL teams, the Victor Oladipo Skills Academy and the National High School Hoops Festival.
Brian Davis was named an Assistant Coach for the women's basketball program. He comes to Howard after serving as an Assistant Coach for the women's basketball team at Towson University. He was responsible for guard/wing development, recruiting and scouting at Towson. Davis also spent seven seasons as an Assistant Coach at Hampton University, where he helped develop a two-time MEAC Player of the Year and numerous All-MEAC selections.
Benjamin Trachman is the Assistant Director for Compliance. Prior to working at Howard, Trachman served as a Compliance Assistant at Tulane University. He was responsible for overseeing initial and transfer eligibility, as well as assisting with the daily operations of the compliance program.
