Frankfort, Ky.-Katrina English has been named head coach of Kentucky State University volleyball.

English comes to the Thorobrettes' program from Temple Junior College in Temple, Texas. She spent the last four seasons as the head coach of the Leopards accomplishing several goals during her tenure. TJC was Region V Conference Runners Up in both 2014 and 2015. English coached three all-Americans, five Academic Award Recipients, and two Region V Most Valuable Players while roaming the sidelines of the TJC Gymnasium.kysu katrina englishEnglish

"I'm here to build leaders," said English. "I'm not here to just build athletes; I want to create lifelong leaders, who will have success in whatever venue they go into as a professional. I want to build up young ladies KSU supporters will be proud of while they're here earning an education and when they move on to their lives after graduating."

Before her time at TJC, English served as head coach at St. Gregory's University, a NAIA institution in Shawnee, Oklahoma. During her one season, English led the Cavaliers to their first conference tournament appearance in eight years in 2013.

English played collegiately at Houston Baptist University in the early 2000s, as she was named All-Region Team in 2002 and All-Conference Team in both 2002 and 2003.

English will be inheriting a KSU volleyball programs that have won three SIAC Championships in the last four season.

"This is a great place to be with all the culture, diversity, and the tradition of winning," said English. "I believe this will be a year where we'll have to work hard, where I've come into the position late, but we're going to get together and continue to be a top team in the SIAC."
