Custom Search BALTIMORE, Md. - Coppin State University President Dr. Maria Thompson announced on Friday, July 29, 2016 the appointment of Mr. Derek Carter to the position of Director of Athletics effective September 1, 2016.
Carter succeeds Derrick Ramsey who resigned in November, 2015 after seven years on the job. At that time Alecia Shields-Gadson was named interim AD.
Carter comes to Coppin State from Montgomery College in Rockville, MD where he served as Director of Athletics.
He also served as AD at Delaware State University and Bowie State University.
Carter received his bachelor's degree in Marketing Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master's degree in Sport Management from University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
Shields-Gadson will continue to serve the university as Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator.
