“Jonea Rima is a great choice for the position. I'm very pleased with the effort that the search committee put into finding the right fit.” Head Coach Toby Rens said of the new hire. “"This is a great day for Maryland Eastern Shore Volleyball. I'm extremely grateful for the commitment that Dr. Bell, Mr. Davidson and the entire Athletic Department made by adding this full time position. This speaks volumes about where we want to go as a program, athletic department and institution. We're all very excited to start this next chapter.”
Most recently Rima was the head coach of Seminole State College in Oklahoma where her teams went 43-40 over the past two seasons. Last autumn the Trojans improved by 15 wins from the year before with a 29-13 record. While at Seminole State she also worked with the residence life department and oversaw operations for the Oklahoma Boom Volleyball Club.
However Seminole State was far from her first opportunity. That came in 2003 when Rima was appointed the head coach of Missouri Valley College. After working at the NAIA school for two years, she moved onto the junior college circuit with head coach positions at Clarendon College in Texas and Sheridan College in Wyoming.
In between her positions as a collegiate head coach, Rima went overseas to coordinate efforts for the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) in the country of Barbados. From 2011 to 2013 she ran the country’s development center and coordinated youth development. Rima also helped coach national junior teams, helping the boys’ team achieve a first place finish at the 2013 Junior Caribbean Championships.
Rima is a graduate of Hendrix College in Arkansas with a master’s degree from the University of Lousiana Monroe while she worked as an assistant coach for the Warhawks. She possesses a CAP II Level certificate from USA Volleyball and certification in Volleyball and Beach Volleyball from the FIVB.
