Fort Valley State University Athletics has named Kevin Porter as its new head football coach. Porter will be formally introduced to Wildcat Nation on Monday June 13 at 11 a.m. in the lobby of the FVSU Health and Physical Education Complex.fvsu kevin porterPorter

Porter brings an extensive background in coaching, including 10 season as both an assistant and head coach on the professional level. His coaching experiense includes stints at the University of West Georgia as an assistant coach and at Point University where he served as head coach and athletics director.

Porter has coached in the Arena Football League as well as the associated developmental league called arenafootball2 (af2). In 2000, he was head coach of the Pensacola Barracudas and followed that position as defensive coordinator for the AFL's New Orleans VooDoo. He also served as head coach of the AFL's Kansas City Brigade.

 On the collegiate level, Porter has served as defensive coordinator for Mid America Nazarene University and head coach at Avila University.

As a player, Porter was a three-year letterman, two-year starter and All-State performer at defensive back for the Warner Robins (GA) Demons.

Porter's collegiate career began at Auburn University where he was a four-year starter, All-American and two-time All-Southeastern Conference performer. He is a graduate of Avila University and holds a master's degree from Concordia University-Irvine.
