Custom Search Jackson State head football coach Tony Hughes has named Chad Germany as the program’s offensive coordinator and John Hendrick as defensive coordinator.
Germany comes to JSU after serving as the co-offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Southern University.
Hendrick served as the defensive line/special teams coach at Alabama State University during the 2015 season.
Over four seasons at SU, Germany was instrumental part in the success of the Jaguars football program. In 2015 the Jaguars landed seven offensive players on the All-SWAC first and second teams.
In addition to coaching the Jaguars quarterbacks, Germany assumed play calling duties during the 2012 season and assumed play calling duties as co-offensive coordinator in 2012 where the offense averaged 26.6 points per game over the nine game span. Germany was also responsible for overseeing and constructing the Jaguars offensive game plan. As recruiting coordinator, Germany helped to initiate the Jaguars 1st Junior Day and Coaches Clinic. He also recruited Memphis TN, South Mississippi, and the Baton Rouge area.
Hendrick, who is no stranger to the Southwestern Athletic Conference, has more than 30 years of coaching and playing experience. He served as an Alabama State football coach during the 2015 season and then again from 2012-13 as the special teams/defensive ends coach. In addition to coaching at Alabama State, he was also the special teams coach at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.
The coaching veteran spent the 2011 season as special teams/defensive line coach at Tulane, after spending the 2008-09 seasons at the University of South Florida in a similar capacity. Hendrick served as the defensive coordinator at South Carolina State University in 2007 and before that he was the head coach at Benedict College from 2003-06. While at South Carolina State, the Bulldogs defense held opponents to 19.6 points and 287.1 yards per game. They also intercepted 11 passes, forced 19 fumbles, recovered 11 fumbles and collected 17 sacks. SC State finished the 2007 season with a 7-4 record, including outscoring opponents 138-49 in three consecutive victories to close the season. As the head coach at Benedict, he compiled an 18-24 mark and the Tigers’ defensive units were nationally ranked in NCAA Division II all four years, in addition to producing a nearly 90 percent team graduation rate.
