Grambling, LA --- It was a homecoming celebration on the Grambling State campus but the Tigers defense wouldn’t let Concordia College join the party as they held the Hornets to 60 yards of total offense in a 35-0 thrashing.

Today also served a Senior Day for Grambling with 16 seniors playing in their final home game and it was the seniors that showed up and showed out scoring three of the Tigers’ five touchdowns.

After a scoreless first quarter senior running back Frank Warren broke the ice on a 23 yard run off left tackle and following a Zoltan Riazzo PAT the Tigers led 7-0 with12:51 remaining in the half. GSU quarterback Anthony Carrothers would then find senior receiver Tommy White from 16 yards out for his first touchdown of the season (Riazzo, PAT).

Sporting a 14-0 lead the G-Men defense would turn offensive as they took advantage of a Concordia comeback attempt when linebacker Cliff Exama snatched his second interception of the game taking this one 43 yards to the endzone (Riazzo, PAT) at the 5:28 mark and the Tigers would take a 21-0 lead into the break.

On the opening drive of the third quarter the Tigers would again find pay dirt when senior running back Cornelius Walker took a left toss 43 yards inside the Hornets five yard line to set himself up for an easy four yard plunge for the score (Riazzo, PAT).  Defensive lineman Asti Burdia would close out the Grambling scoring when he forced and then recovered a Jeremy Roberts fumble in the endzone (Riazzo, PAT) with 12:22 remaining in the quarter as they cruised to victory.

Offensively one of the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s most consistent one-two punch turned in a powerful performance with Walker garnishing 97 yards and a score; while Warren added 92 points and a score. Carrothers was 11-of-19 for 144 yards and a touchdown with senior receiver Kiare Thompson accounting for 103 of those yards on six receptions.

Defensively, Exama led the Tigers with nine tackles, including three for a loss of yards, and two interceptions. Derrick Wilhite added seven tackles and a pass breakup.

Grambling will return to action with a rare Thursday night appearance this week when they travel to Houston for a pivotal SWAC western division match up against Texas Southern.
