
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Ricky L. Duckett- former head men's basketball coach and assistant athletic director at Fayetteville State University, who once served as an undergraduate assistant for the legendary coach Dean Smith, has been named head coach of the men's basketball program at Winston-Salem State University.

A native of Winston-Salem, Duckett brings to the position five vears of college head coaching experience and nearly 20 years of overall college basketball coaching experience. The appointment is pending WSSU Board of Trustees approval.
Duckett has served as head men's basketball coach at Favctteville State University since 1987. During, that time he compiled a record of 75-62. Prior to becoming head coach at Fayetteville State, Duckett was head coach at Winston-Salem's R.J. Reynolds High School from 1992-93. He also served as assistant men's basketball coach at Wichita State University (1986-92), University of South Carolina (1985-86), University of Central Florida (1984-85) and Jacksonville (FL) University (1983-84).
From 1980-82, Duckett served as assistant men's basketball coach and head freshman coach at Harvard University.
Duckett began his career as junior varsity men's basketball coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979. He served as an undergraduate assistant and team manager for former UNC-CH coach Dean Smith from 1975-80.
While Duckett was with Wichita State University, the Shockers appeared in the National Invitational Tournament Finals in the 1988 season and the NCAA Midwest Regionals in 1986 and 1987.
Duckett earned a bachelor's degree from UNC-CH in 1979 and a master's degree from the same institution in 1980.
Duckett has served as a lecturer, counselor, instructor and administrator to boys ages 8-18 at various college summer basketball camps including UNC-CH, University of Notre Dame, The City of Jacksonville, FL, University of Kansas and Wichita State University.
