Former Howard University standout and 1990 MEAC Player of the Year Karen Wilkins has been drafted by the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. Wilkins was selected in the fourth round of the league's April 29 Draft.
Wilkins was a two-time ALL MEAC performer during the 1988-89 and 1998-90 seasons. She was selected MEAC Player of the Year during her junior year at Howard. She only appeared in eight games her senior year finishing with 1320 points and a 17.4 career average. The 6-0 swing player is expected to help fill Mercury coach Cheryl Miller's expressed need at the guard position.
