
Howard University leads a group of six former black college performers participating in this weekend's WNBA Pre-Draft Camp in Chicago. The Lady Bison have three former players scheduled to participate.
Seventy-six players, consisting of college seniors, veterans with prior professional experience and international players, will display their skills for WNBA coaches and general managers at the Camp which runs from April 16-18 at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. All players participating in the Pre-Draft Camp have signed contracts to play in the WNBA during the 1998 season.
Howard's Alesha Hill, Amanda Hayes and Karen Wilkins will join Florida A&M's Aquenda Clark, Norfolk State's Michelle Sessoms and Cheyney's Yolanda Laney as black college players invited to participate.
Hayes was MEAC Player of the Year in 1997 while Hill earned the honor this season. Clark was a two-time All-MEAC first teamer. Sessoms earned All-CIAA honors twice during her career at NSU.
Player physical examinations will be conducted by league-appointed medical personnel on Thursday, April 16. The on-court portion of the Pre-Draft Camp begins on Friday, April 17 at the Solheim Center with players participating in drills and scrimmages. The Pre-Draft camp will run through Saturday, April 18.
Howard's Denique Graves was the only black college player to participate in the WNBA last season. She played for the Sacramento Monarchs.
