Tennessee State Unviersity has named Wallace Dooley, Jr. as interim Sports Information Director. Dooley's appointment, effective February 11, 1998 was announced by TSU Director of Athletics, Dr. Vivian L. Fuller. He will replace Johnny Franks, who resigned from the TSU SID position effective February 10th.
"We are fortunate to have an experienced person available to staff our sports information department, during this early period in my administration of this program", said Fuller who took over as AD on November 15, 1997. "Mr. Dooley's interim appointment will allow the TSU sports information office to operate through the athletic year. I intend to initiate a national search to fill this position on a permanent basis", Fuller stated.
Dooley, a Tennesse State graduate, has over twenty-five years of collegiate sports information experience. He has served as sports information director for NCAA national championship programs at Alabama A&M (soccer), the University of D.C. (men's basketball) and North Carolina Central University (men's basketball). He also served as sports information director at Virginia State University. In his most recent collegiate experience, he served as public relations director of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
Dooley presently heads an athletic media relations company, which provides computer and internet services to colleges, athletic conferences and professional sports organizations on the local, regional and national level. Some of his projects include serving as a consultant to the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament and as Venue Press Chief at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. His company has provided services to Major League Baseball's RBI World Series; the American Legion Baseball World Series; Nashville Kats Arena Football Team, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Ohio Valley Conference.
