North Carolina Central Joins ECAC Membership

Centerville, MA - North Carolina Central University has been accepted into the Eastern College Athletic Conference. The membership is effective September 1, 1998.

NCCU and Neumann College, an NCAA Division III institution located in Aston, Pa, were unanimously voted in by the ECAC Executive Council during the ECAC Spring Convention in Warwick, RI, April 13-15. The vote followed a recommendation by the ECAC Membership Committee.

N.C. Central becomes the fifth HBCU and third institution in North Carolina to join the conference. Morgan State, Delaware State, Coppin State, Lincoln and Cheyney University already are members of the ECAC. UNC-Wilmington and East Carolina University are the other two North Carolina institutions who are members of the conference.

The ECAC is the nation's largest athletic conference with 292 member colleges ranging from Maine to North Carolina in all three NCAA Divisions. The conference manages over 100 championships and special events in 22 men's and women's sports. It is responsible for over 20,000 officiating assignments annually and coordinates a student award recognition program and professional enhancement seminars for its member colleges.
