MEAC 1998 SPRING MEETING SET

GREENSBORO, NC-- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will hold its annual Spring Meeting May 27-29 (Wednesday-Friday) in Atlanta, GA at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. MEAC Commissioner Charles S. Harris will welcome the governing body which includes the Council of Chief Executive Officers (Presidents and Chancellors), the Faculty Athletic Representatives, the Directors of Athletics and the Senior Woman Administrators.

Some of the key issues the MEAC will address include NCAA matters of restricted earnings coaches, student-athlete employment and other issues including status and finalization of Conference athletic schedules, television for football and basketball, the Heritage Bowl and the Basketball Tournament. Also, an NCAA staff member has been invited to discuss legislative matters.

The MEAC is a member of NCAA Division I and the current members are Bethune-Cookman College (Daytona Beach, FL), Coppin State College (Baltimore, MD), Delaware State University (Dover, DE), Florida A&M University (Tallahassee, FL), Hampton University (Hampton, VA), Howard University (Washington, DC), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (Princess Anne, MD), Morgan State University (Baltimore, MD), Norfolk State University (Norfolk, VA), North Carolina A&T State University (Greensboro, NC) and South Carolina State University (Orangeburg, SC).

Commissioner Charles S. Harris will present the winner of the men’s 27th T.L. Hill and the winner of the women’s 12th Mary McLeod Bethune All-Sports Awards during the MEAC All-Sports Dinner May 29 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The awards are symbols of overall athletic excellence among the MEAC member institutions following a completed season of competition. Florida A&M’s women have won the award four consecutive years, and the men made FAMU a double winner last season.
