Florida A&M University swept both the men's and women's All-Sports trophies at a dinner held during the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Spring Meeting in Atlanta. The FAMU women won their eighth consecutive Mary McLeod Bethune Award while the men captured their second straight Talmadge Hill Award.
In the men's race, the Rattlers outpointed second place Hampton despite not winning any conference titles. Florida A&M secured four-second place finishes in football, indoor and outdoor track and tennis to accumulate 60 total points. Hampton's championship in football and tennis, second-place finish in cross-country, third place standing in basketball and outdoor track and eighth place finish in indoor track gave the Pirates 54 total points. Howard finished third in men's competition with 48 points.
The men's award is named for the Talmadge Layman Hill, the first president of the MEAC.
FAMU easily outdistanced second place Bethune-Cookman in the women's race. The Rattlerettes accumulated a total of 74 points to BCC's 59. Howard was third with 53 points.
The women's all-sports award is named for Bethune-Cookman founder Mary McLeod Bethune, a strong supporter of college athletics.
