St. Augustine's College won its first-ever NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Saturday at Evansville, IL. On the strength of a 2-4-5 finish in the 100 meter hurdles, a 1-4 finish in the 400 meter hurdles and 19 points in field events, the Lady Falcons scored 61 points on the final day to take the title.Andrea Giscombe accounted for 28 individual points. She won the long jump on Thursday and returned Saturday to win the 400MH and capture second place in the 100MH. Teammate Karen Constable was 4th in the 400 MH while Donnet Facey and Lisa Taylor finished fourth and fifth in the 100MH.
St. Aug's depth proved important as Shanique Musgrave finished second in the javelin; Denise George was fifth in the shot put and Shanka Walker and Shantel Robinson placed fifth and sixth in the triple jump.
Lincoln University behind the duo of Beverly Grant and Lorraine Graham, finished fourth overall with 60 points, all on the final day. The ladies from Missouri finished first and second in the 200 meter dash; Grant taking the title from her defending champion teammate. She also won the 100 meter dash. Graham set a meet record winning the 400 meter dash. The Lincoln relay teams won both the 4X100M and 4X400M, setting a meet record at 3:33.28 in the final event.
In the men's competition, Morehouse's Gregory Roberts easily won the high jump setting a meet record at 2.28 meters (7' 5.75"). No other competitor cleared seven feet.
Abilene Christian won the team competition with 151 points easily outdistancing second place Angelo State by 81 points. St. Augustine's men finished fourth with 38 points. Morehouse tied for 11th with 20 points.
