
Three Black College track teams scored points and two others are on the verge of claiming All-Americans at this year's NCAA Division 1 Track and Field Championships in Buffalo, NY.
Texas Southern's Yuan Hunt, Hampton's James Carter and the Norfolk State 400 meter relay team have already tallied going into Saturday's final day of competition.
Hunt got on the board first, Wednesday, when she finished fourth in the women's long jump. She picked up five points with a leap of 6.26 meters. Florida A&M's Venessa King finished 19th overall.
Carter captured two team points for Hampton with a seventh place finish in the 400m hurdles. His time was 1:07.61. Carter had qualified for the finals Wednesday with a time of 51.05 which was the seventh best time of the meet qualifiers.
The Norfolk State 400 meter relay team got two team points finishing seventh in the final race. NSU rode the backs of Malcolm Watts, Melvin Faulk, Christian Williams, Joel Mascoll and Claude Toukene into the finals.
Mascoll and Toukene also participated in the 100m and 200m events. Both made it to the semifinals in the 200m. Toukene just missed qualifying for the finals in the 100m, finishing .04 seconds slower than the eighth place qualifier.
Morgan State's Ameerah Bello has qualified for the finals in the women's 400m dash on Saturday. She was the fifth best qualifier in the event with a time of 52.32. Bello also qualified for the finals in the 200m dash.
Florida A&M hopes to join the list of All-Americans on Saturday. Its' 1600m relay team had the fourth best time (3:04.53) in the preliminaries to earn a spot in the final race. Prairie View's team had the 13th best time in teh event but only the top eight qualified for the finals.
