COPPIN NAMES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ASSISTANT

August 11, 1998

Coppin State College women's basketball coach Jennie Hall has hired Billie Harris as assistant coach, rounding out her staff for the 1998-99 season.

Harris, a 1984 graduate of Frostburg (Md.) State University, was head women's coach at Columbia Union College in 1994-95, and for the last four years has served as head coach of In Flight, a women's semi-professional team based in Washington, D.C.

A native of Largo, Md., Harris has coached several Amateur Athletic Union teams and was named AAU National Coach of the Year in 1997.

"Billie has a lot of experience as both a player and a coach," said Hall, who was named Coppin's fifth head coach on May 13. "She is very disciplined and has excellent organizational skills. She will have an immediate impact on our program."

Harris will assist in all areas of basketball operations and will primarily work with the Lady Eagles' post players.

Coppin State went 10-18 this past season and finished fifth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
