Coppin State College women's basketball coach Jennie Hall announced the hiring of Tiffany Smith as assistant coach.
Smith was an assistant last season at Florida Southern College, which posted a 24-5 record and won the Sunshine State Conference regular-season and tournament titles, finishing as the top-ranked team in the South Region in the final NCAA Division II poll.
"I am excited about the opportunity at Coppin State and look forward to the challenge of coaching and recruiting at the Division I level," said Smith, who graduated cum laude from Virginia State University with a B.S. in accounting in 1993.
A native of Woodbridge, Va., Smith averaged 7.6 points and 3.0 assists in her four-year career at VSU and was a GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American in 1993.
Smith will assist in all areas of basketball operations and will serve as the Lady Eagles' primary recruiter.
"Tiffany was a good player in college, and she played point guard, which demands a strong understanding of the game," said Hall, who was named Coppin's fifth head coach on May 13. "She has an outstanding work ethic, excellent organizational skills and is very knowledgeable about the game of basketball; she will add a lot to our program."
Coppin State went 10-18 this past season and finished fifth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
