Coppin State athletics director Ron 'Fang" Mitchell has announced that Jennie Hall will remain as interim head women's basketball coach for the 1998-99 season.
"Jennie has been involved with successful programs both as a player and a coach, she knows what it takes to get the job done," said Mitchell. "The players are familiar with her and comfortable with her, she is the logical candidate for the position and it just seems like the right move to me. I'm confident she'll do an excellent job."
Hall, who came to Coppin last year was elevated to interim head coach following the resignation of Britt King, who was hired Monday (May 11) at head women's coach at Fresno State.
"I've been assistant coach for eight years and this is what I've been preparing for," said Hall, who was an All-Atlantic 10 performer at Rutgers before a successful professional career in Finland, Sweden, Spain, Italy and New Zealand.
"I didn't expect it (becoming head coach) to happen after only one season at Coppin, but I feel I'm ready to be a head coach at this level and am looking forward to the opportunity."
A native of Norristown, PA., Hall got her start in collegiate coaching in 1989 at George Washington, where she served as an assistant for one season. After returning overseas to play professionally for two more years, she accepted a position at Indiana University in Pennsylvania, where she was an assistant for three seasons before moving to Vermont in1994. She coached for three seasons at Vermont before coming to Coppin.
Hall currently ranks 14th on Rutgers' career scoring list having canned 1,104 points in her career. As a senior in 1983, she was first-team All-Atlantic 10 and was named as one of the top 30 players in the country by The New York Times.
In 1985, Hall was a member of the United States women's basketball team which won a silver medal at the World University Games. She was also an Olympic basketball team invitee in 1988.
She becomes the fifth head coach in Coppin State women's basketball history and the third in the last three years.
