Former Delaware State head basketball coach Art Perry has been named head coach at American University.

Perry, an AU alum and former player at the Washington, DC institution, moved into the position after just one season at Delaware State. He coached Delaware State to a 7-20 record after being hired in August. Prior to heading the Hornet program, he was an assistant coach at Maryland for six years.

A native of the District, Perry replaces Chris Knoche, whose contract expired and was not renewed at the end of the season.
