Hampton, VA....The 1997-98 Hampton University Women's basketball team will get an early start onthe upcoming basketball season when they travel to Portugal & Spain August 5-13. The Lady Pirateswill travel to Lisbon, Portugal for a three game series with the Portugal National Team on August 7,8, and 9 and end their tour in Madrid, Spain on the 12th."This is a great opportunity for ourprogram, and it will also give us a chance to bond as a unit prior to the upcoming season," stated firstyear head coach Patricia Bibbs.
This will be the first European trip in the history of basketball at Hampton University; also afirst for the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Eight members of the team will make the tripled by MEAC Rookie of the Year Daniell Dawson (5'9-G/15.1ppg). Only returning players that wereeligible last season are allowed to participate in preseason trips and returnees, Dowega Blake andNisha Wilson are rehabilitating injuries.
