Baltimore Radio Station WLG (1360-AM) will broadcast all of the Coppin State EaglesÕ 1997-98 regular-season basketball games.ÒWeÕre very pleased with the agreement,Ó said Coppin athletic director and head menÕs basketball coach Ron ÒFangÓ Mitchell. ÒWLG has experience in sports programming and has a strong following in the local sports community.
ÒWeÕve gotten a tremendous amount of support from people in Baltimore and the surrounding area, and being on WLG will give those folks more access to our program. We have several key players coming back from last yearÕs team and expect a good season, so we hope people will tune in to listen to our games.Ó
The agreement allows Coppin the opportunity to air any tournament contests in addition to its 26 regular-season contests.
ÒWeÕre thrilled to be broadcasting Coppin State basketball,Ó said WLG general manager Paul Kopelke. ÒIt was an easy choice in deciding what the most exciting team in Baltimore will be to follow this season, considering the national recognition they got last year.Ó
Dave Goldman, sports director at CTV (Channel 15) in Largo, Md., will serve as the EaglesÕ play-by-play announcer, while former Coppin standout Phil Booth will handle analyst duties.
Coppin, which hasnÕt had its games on the air since the 1994-95 season when WOLB carried a limited schedule, will have a 10-minute pregame show and a 15-minute postgame show.
All games will be carried live, with the exception of some Saturday afternoon contests, which will be aired on a tape-delayed basis starting at 7:30 p.m.
