Carolinas Football Classic Changes Venue

August 18, 1997

The Carolinas Football Classic football game is changing locations. The annual season-ending game between North Carolina A&T and South Carolina State is moving from Charlotte's Memorial Stadium to Ericsson Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers.

For the past two years the Aggies and Bulldogs have met in Charlotte in a game sponsored by the 100 Black Men of the city. Attendance has easily filled Memorial Stadium which seats 23,000. Ericsson Stadium seats over 70,000 and plans call for the 1997 Classic to use the bottom bowl, which seats around 25,000.

Moving the location of the game, dubbed "The Battle at the Border", should help the classic grow by allowing the opportunity for expanded seating. Ericsson Stadium's upper deck will be opened if needed.

The game is scheduled for November 22 and tickets are scheduled to go on sale next week.
