All-MEAC Baseball Team Announced
Keith Maxwell, star catcher for Florida A&M University, was voted 1997 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player Of The Year after leading the Rattlers to the league's South Division title, batting .390 and leading the MEAC in runs-batted-in with 62. Maxwell also had the most home runs in the league with 15. The senior from Bristol, Fl accumulated 876 ballot points to easily outdistance Chris Warren of Howard who had 302 points. Mike Rawls of Bethune-Cookman had 251 points and North Carolina A&T's Jason Moore was fourth with 100 points.
Eunique Johnson of Howard Univrsity collected 703 points to garner the MEAC Rookie of the Year honor. The infielder-pitcher from Compton, CA batted .402 to lead the MEAC. He led the league in doubles with 21 and was second in RBI with 52 in 50 games. Matt Knox of B-CC finished second in the rookie voting with 502 points.
