STARS: Former Morgan State
wide receiver Marc Lester allocated to the NFL
Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy by the Baltimore Ravens, was
named Offensive Player of the Week in the league for his efforts this week.
Lester enjoyed a career night in the Waldstadion as he helped the
Galaxy come from behind to record a 33-27 victory over the Scottish Claymores
in overtime. He caught 12 passes for 195 yards (both season bests) and
scored three touchdowns. Lester scored twice in the fourth quarter on receptions
of
6 and 13 yards, and then grabbed the game-winning touchdown from
45 yards out in overtime to cap a highlight-reel night. Galaxy head
coach Doug Graber said: "Marc is a real good football player and
a great kid. The Baltimore Ravens are going to be very
pleased with him and I will be shocked if he doesn't make their
roster this year." Lester joins former North Carolina A&T
running back Maurice Hicks, former Langston
wide receiver Matthew Hatchette, former
Howard wide receiver Elijah Thurman and former
Grambling State defensive back Calvin Spears
among the league leaders (See STAT

GONE FISHIN': The two former black
college standouts in WNBA camps were cut last week from
their respective rosters. Former Howard star and two-time
MEAC Player of the Year Andrea
Gardner, who played last year for the Utah Starzz, a team that has relocated to San Antonio,
was let go by the New York Liberty on May 10. Shaw
forward Naomi Mobley, this year's CIAA
Player of the year was waived on May 5 by the WNBA champion Los
Angeles Sparks.
CLASSIC MOVES: The 2003 River Front Classic, originally scheduled to be played at Paul
Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, OH on September 20, has been
moved to Cleveland Browns Stadium. The game now tabbed
The Ohio Classic, features the Hampton
University Pirates and the Golden Tigers of
Tuskegee University who will renew their rivalry for the first time since 1993.
GOLF FINISH: Fayetteville State's men's
golf team finished eighth in the NCAA Div. II
Atlantic/Southeast Super Regional Tournament, May 5-7 in Greensboro,
GA. The Broncos were the only black college golf team to
qualilfy for the DII playoffs.
