BCSP Notes . . .Howard ConnectionsNew Georgia basketball coach Dennis Felton, a former player at Howard University, has hired nine-year coaching veteran and former Bison teammate Mike Jones as an assistant with the Bulldogs. "We are both very happy and very fortunate to have Coach Jones join our staff," Felton said. "He is a man of great integrity who brings incredible enthusiasm and commitment to our task of building Georgia basketball into something special. Mike's charisma and engaging personality will be appreciated by our players and also serve him well as we work to attract other talented student-athletes to Georgia. As it is with the rest of our staff, Mike is an outstanding leader who could be and will be an outstanding head coach leading his own program sometime soon." Jones' prior collegiate coaching stops included his alma mater, Howard, from 1994-97 and Furman University from 1997-2000. The Silver Spring, Md., native was a four-year starter at Howard, where he earned a degree in zoology in 1990. After his collegiate career Jones played in a summer professional league in California and earned a tryout with the NBA's New Jersey Nets. He began coaching in 1990 as the junior varsity head coach and assistant varsity coach at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. Felton and Jones join Milan Brown, who replaced the legendary Jim Phelan as head coach at Mount St. Mary's, and former South Carolina State head coach and new Tennessee State head coach, Cy Alexander, as products of the Bison men's basketball teams who were under the tutelage of former Howard head coach, A.B. Williamson. Alexander began his coaching career as Williamson's assistant at Howard while Felton, Brown and Jones are former Bison players.
