FIRST DAY PICKS - First to Third Rounds
  • Rashean Mathis - Bethune-Cookman safety perhaps has worked his way into the first round of the Draft after wowing scouts at the Senior Bowl, the Combine and in personal workouts. Worked out by an unheard-of 11 NFL teams prior to the Draft which signals many are pegging him to go early. Teams like his size (6-1, 203) and love his ball skills, evidenced by his I-AA best 14 single-season (2002) and 31 career interceptions. His versatility the ability to play either safety position with the speed (4.41) to cover wideouts rates him as a hybrid DB coveted by many teams. Also could catch on as a punt returner.
PROJECTION: Late first round to Buffalo, Pittsburgh or New York Giants or early second round. Not expected to last past first 45 picks.
  • Drayton Florence - Like Mathis, this Tuskegee defensive back combines great size (6-0, 198), excellent speed (4.37 at the Combine) and exceptional cover ability which rates him in the top ten at the position, and projects him as either a cornerback or safety on the next level. Should be second Golden Tiger in a row to go on Day One following Roosevelt Williams last year (3rd Round) to the Bears.
PROJECTION: Second or third round to Baltimore, New England, Oakland, Kansas City, Dallas or New Orleans.
  • SECOND DAY PICKS - Fourth to Seventh Rounds
Vishante Shiancoe, TE, Morgan State - Rated in top ten at his position.
Derek Watson, RB, S. C. State - Great talent w/history of off-field problems.
Robert Mathis, DE, Alabama A&M - I-AA sack leader's stock rising as OLB.
Tracy White, LB, Howard - 4.48 40 woke up scouts to MEAC star's potential.
Michael Hayes, WR, Southern - One-time first-rounder looking for a shot.
Marques Ogden, OT, Howard - Hopes to follow brother Jonathan into NFL.
