BCSP Notes . . . Organizer Tomel "Doc " Burke says the first annual Historically Black College and University Indoor Invitational Track and Field Meet held Saturday and Sunday in Landover, Md., went "very well." Over 300 athletes from nearly 20 Historically Black Colleges and Universities participated drawing crowds of over 2,100 for the two days. Though no team scores were kept, trophies were presented to all the winners and Burke said the men's teams from Southern and Hampton, along with the women of Tennessee State and Delaware State excelled. (Above l.) Howard's David Oliver shows his winning form in the 60-meter hurdles (7.96 sec.), (2nd from l.) Tennesse State Tigerbelle Mercy Udoji completes the first leg of the distance medley. (3rd from l.) Southern's Brian Johnson leaps 7.55 meters to win the long jump competion and (r.) Howard's Iudira Garcia battles Hampton's Cetera Bunche in the 3000 meter run. Garcia edged out Bunche running a winning time of 10:53.50. © 2003 Azeez Communications, Inc. |
