2002 BCSP PRESEASON TOP 201. FLORIDA A&M - If Printers is as good as advertised, Florida A&M should be better than they look on paper. LAST YEAR: 7-4 2. JACKSON STATE - QB Robert Kent will take care of the offense. If new coordinator Greg Johnson does likewise with the defense, the Tigers will be hard to beat. LAST YEAR: 7-4 3. BETHUNE-COOKMAN - The only reason B-CC is not rated above Florida A&M is that they've not proven they can beat them. LAST YEAR: 6-4 4. TENNESSEE STATE - The Blue Tigers are a trigger-man (QB) short of being the best black college team in the land. LAST YEAR: 8-3 5. ALCORN STATE - Freshman QB Donald Carrie and the Braves surprised many last season. It will be no surprise this year. LAST YEAR: 6-5 6. GRAMBLING STATE - Doug Williams may be reloading, but even than takes time. SWAC three-peat highly unlikely. LAST YEAR: 10-1 7. SOUTHERN - Jaguars defense will have to hold while new offense gets into gear. LAST YEAR: 7-4 8. N. C. A&T - Aggies MEAC title hopes may rest on breaking in a new QB though holdover Jason Battle led them to their last one (1999). LAST YEAR: 8-3. 9. HAMPTON - Pirates will contend as usual in MEAC but may not have the horses to get over the hump. LAST YEAR: 7-4 10. TUSKEGEE - After a three-year run atop the SIAC, Rick Comegy may not have the best material. LAST YEAR: 11-1. NEXT TEN: 11) S. C. State 12) Bowie State 13) Fort Valley State 14) Delaware State 15) Howard 16) Alabama State 17) Virginia Union 18) Winston-Salem State 19) Fayetteville State 20) Miles © 2001 Azeez Communications, Inc.
