SWAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
DESMOND CAMBRIDGE, 6-0, Sr., G, Alabama A&M, Nashville, TN - In two
games, Cambridge averaged 28 points, 6.5 rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals.
In a win over Prairie View, he just missed a triple-double getting 35 points,
11 assists and nine steals. Cambridge is the NCAA Div. I steals leader.
JACLYN WINFIELD, 5-8, Sr., G, Southern, Wesson, MS - In two conference
victories, Winfield averaged 25.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and
3.0 steals. In her best game against Alcorn State she scored 28 points, had eight
assists, seven rebounds and two steals.
- SIAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
DARIUS GOODWIN, 6-6, Sr., F, Morehouse, Wheeling, WV - Averaged 16.3 points,
11.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks.
SHERIKA TARPKINS, 5-6, Fr., G, Fort Valley State, Eatonton, Ga - Averaged
19.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 6.0 steals and .3 blocked shots.
- MEAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
ANDRE MATTHEWS, 6-6, Sr., F, Delaware State, Seaford, DE - In wins over
Norfolk State and UMES, Matthews hit on 14 of 19 field goal attempts, 8 of 12
free throws and had 10 rebounds and eight assists. He had 19 points, six rebounds
and five assists vs. Norfolk State.
LAUREN FORSTHOFF, 6-0, So., F, Bethune-Cookman, Lafayette, La - In two
games last week, a win 66-52 over Morgan St. and a 78-76 overtime loss to Hampton,
Forsthoff totalled 34, points, 16 rebounds, five blocks, five steals and firve
assists.
ROOKIE
DEVIN GREEN, 6-6, Fr., G., Hampton, Columbus, OH - WIns the award for fourth
time this season after getting 34 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks
and two steals in two Pirate wins. He totalled 22 points in win over Howard.
OCTAVIA THOMPSON, 5-8, Fr., G, Maryland-E. Shore, Colonial Heights,
VA - Totalled 32 points in two games including a 22-point performance in a
52-50 win over NC A&T.
- CIAA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
STEVE BYNES, 6-9, Sr., C, Shaw, Ft. Lauderdale, FL - In three games, averaged
22 points on 25 of 31 shooting (80%). In a game vs. Livingstone, Bynes connected
on 11 of 14 shots for 28 points. He also had seven rebounds and two blocks.
TIFFANY WHITTED, 6-0, Sr., C, WSSU, Mebane, NC - Averaged 19.5 points,
12 rebounds and 2 steals while shooting 71% from the field in two games. In a
win over JC Smith, Whitted had 25 points, 12 rebounds and four steals.
ROOKIE
TIMEKA LAWSON, 5-9, Fr., F, Fayetteville State, Kinston, NC - Averaged
13.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 7 steals as the Lady Broncos went 3-0. In a win
over Livingstone, Lawson had a triple-double, getting 14 points, 14 rebounds and
ten steals.
HASSAN ROBINSON, 6-4, Fr., F, St. Paul's, Norfolk, VA - Robinson three-peats
with Rookie Award as he averaged 19.3 points, 6 rebounds and two assists. In a
loss to Shaw, Robinson had 36 points and seven rebounds.
- INDEPENDENT PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
KELLY ADAMS, 5-7. Jr., G, Central State - Has led Lady Marauders to 18-1
start averaging 24.2 points per game. She is the second leading scorer in NAIA
Div. I women's basketball. Teammate Teaira Harrison is the Lady Marauders second
leading scorer averaging 17.2 points per game. The Lady Marauders are the leading
scoring team in NAIA Div. I basketball averaging 98.2 points per game.
ANTHONY FRAZIER, So., F, Cheyney - In two games, Frazier averaged 18 points
and six rebounds per game as the Wolves split two games. He had 17 in a 74-72
loss to West Chester and then tied with a team-high 20 in an 80-73 win over Kutztown.
Frazier averages 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
