RICHARD HUNTLEY
5-11, 225,RB, Carolina Panthers (5th year, WINSTON-SALEM STATE)
Had his best day as a pro, and set the Panthers single game rushing
mark as he carried 22 times for 168 yards though the Panthers lost their
15th straight game, 38-6 to New England. Huntley fumbled once. Huntley
also caught two passes for 23 yards but had another fumble on one of
his receptions.
MICHAEL STRAHAN
6-5,
275, DE, New York Giants, (9th year, TEXAS SOUTHERN)
Three tackles and one assist, but one of those tackles was a sack giving
him 22 1/2 pm the season, setting a new NFL record. Strahan surpassed
Mark Gastineau's record set in 198? when he sacked Green Bay QB Brett
Favre on a controversial play. Favre appeared to slide down and allow Strahan
to get the sack that gave him the record. The loss ended a season in
which New York (7-9) missed the playoffs one year after playing in the
Super Bowl. The only bright spot was Strahan breaking the record with 2:42
to play. "It was a phenomenal season. I couldn't ask for any more," Strahan said.
"Team-wise we could have asked for a lot better."
