Overheard at the Pioneer Bowl

"The organization and planning was good. The day (Dec. 22) hurt us a little bit. We'll be back to Dec. 14 next year (2002) when the kids are still in school and more folks can come out. Three days before Christmas is tough. I'm happy with Tuskegee's attendance. We're bringing on a publicist, improving some marketing and making sure we've got some more sponsors coming in. I think things are on the upswing. It's still disappointing from the standpoint of these conferences, the SIAC and CIAA being so rich in history, that this bowl (game) can't be better."
SIAC Commissioner Robert Vowels on the game

"Our president may be having some ideas now because people are talking a little bit and I think he's starting to think, once or twice, about going I-AA. He's mentioned it to me but we haven't been able to put anything down sound yet. We can petition to go I-AA if we wanted to. So, we're excited about that. I'm excited that he even said that. If Tuskegee decides to go I-AA, it would probably be a great thing."

Rick Comegy on Tuskegee moving up to Div. I-AA

"Virginia Union had a nice running attack. They like to bang the ball inside the tackles. We knew if we came out and stopped the run and forced them to pass, it would pretty much be a long day for them."

Tuskegee LB Kelvin Powell on stopping VUU

"They were intense for four quarters. That was the difference in the game. They're in a league of their own. We haven't faced anyone like that."

Va. Union DB Ralph "Pete" Hunter on Tuskegee

"I've been at the school (Tuskegee) quite a while and we've been able to build. As far as moving on to another school, right now, just to have my family taken care of and have some job security, that means a lot to me. And the school that comes along that offers me that, I'll probably definitely be interested."

Tuskegee head coach Rick Comegy on his future

"I think we would beat them (Grambling) if we played them. But it's up to the voters."
