BCSP ProFile - NFL
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
|
| Former black college stars and Carolina Panther players, Richard Huntley (34), a running back, and Rashard Anderson (46), a defensive back, perform Sunday against the Washington Redskins. Huntley, out of Winston-Salem State, owns the CIAA career and single-season rushng records. Anderson was an all-SWAC performer at Jackson State before being selected by the Carolina Panthers in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft. The Panthers lost to Washington, 17-14, in overtime. | ![]() |
AENEAS WILLIAMS
5-11,
200, DB, St. Louis Rams (11th year, Southern) Williams led St. Louis with
five tackles and three assists and had an interception he returned 42 yards for
a second quarter touchdown as the Rams remained as the only undefeated team in
the NFL with a 34-14 win over the New York Jets. "Aeneas has four or five
interceptions a week in practice, and we were wondering when he would get one
in a game," Rams coach Mike Martz said. It was the first interception this
season for Jets QB Vinny Testaverde, who tried to knock Williams out of bounds
at the 5, but the defensive back shrugged off the hit and fell into the end zone.
MAURICE SMITH
6-0, 235, RB,
Atlanta Falcons (2nd year, North Carolina A&T) Atlanta (3-3), losers of
two straight after Jamal Anderson was lost for the season, seems to have found
a replacement in Maurice Smith, who gained 83 yards on 22 carries against New
Orleans in a 20-13 Falcon win.
Smith had a fumble in the game but that did not overshadown his workman-like ground effort. "We came out to prove the point that we're an offensive unit to be reckoned with," Smith said.
