BCSP ProFile - NFL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK for games of October 13 and 14
STEVE McNAIR
6-2, 225, QB,
Tennessee Titans (7th year, Alcorn State) Had nine rushes for 54 yards and
oneTD (one yard run) and also was 15 of 23 passing for 230 yards and one TD, as
Titans got their first win of the season in a 31-28 overtime win againstTampa
Bay. McNair hit rookie Drew Bennett with a 14-yard completion and then put the
game back on kicker Joe Nedney, who had missed a 48-yarder in the fourth quarter,
but connected on his third field goal of the game for the win. McNair ended an
eight-quarter scoring drought with a one-yard TD pass to Kevin Dyson on their
opening drive. McNair bought time with his feet repeatedly by threatening to scramble
only to pull up and pass downfield at the last second.
MICHAEL STRAHAN
6-5,
275, DE, New York Giants (9th year, Texas Southern) Strahan sacked St. Louis
QB Kurt Warner and had six tackles in 15-14 loss to St. Louis. Strahan beat up
on Rams right tackle Ryan Tucker, who broke his right hand and separated his left
shoulder last week. Tucker was finally replaced by Rod Jones, making his first
appearance of the season, in the fourth quarter. "Obviously, I was causing
some problems," Tucker said. "It didn't go so well." "Too
much Strahan," said Warner, who was knocked out of the game for a play. "Way
too much Strahan." Still, the Giants (3-2) fell short. "It's tough to
accept this," said Strahan, who has 81/2 sacks in the last three games. "I
definitely felt we deserved better than we got."
