  • ­ MOREHOUSE 14, Tuskegee 3
    Morehouse (3-2, 2-1 SIAC) scored all the points they would need on a 80-yard return of a blocked field goal in the second quarter as they ended defending black college champion Tuskegee's 16-game winning streak (longest in NCAA Div. II) with the upset before 24,401 in Columbus, Ga. Johnathan Rainey's return of the Ronald Smalls block gave Morehouse the lead after Travis Gumbs had put Tuskegee (4-1, 1-1 SIAC) up with a 30-yard first quarter field goal. The Maroon Tigers scored again before halftime on a seven-yard TD run by Nate Zachery and shut out Tuskegee for the rest of the game. TU's Bobby Wilson rushed for 185 yards but could not get into the end zone. Cedrick Dupree stated at QB for TU in place of Aaron James, the SIAC's leading passer, who was hindered by a groin injury. Morehouse got five turnovers for the game, picking off three passes and recovering a fumble

  • ­ NORFOLK STATE 28, Hampton 20
    Norfolk State (3-2, 2-1 MEAC) got their first win over Hampton (3-3, 2-1 MEAC) since 1996 before 18.972 fans at the Battle of the Bay Classic in Norfolk. The Spartans jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead and added 14 fourth quarter points to pull off the upset. RB William Smith (30 car., 70 yds, 2 TDs) and WR Glenn Thomas (2 rec., 57 yds., 2 TDs) took turns scoring in the second and fourth quarters for the Spartans. NSU QB Dontrel Leonard (8-22, 102 yds.) was picked off five times, but the Spartans defense shut down the Pirates rushing attack (31 yds., in 37 car.) and harried QB Ataveus Cash into a 18-of-43, 224-yard, two-interception afternoon. Cash was sacked four times.

  • ­ JACKSON STATE 24, Southern 21
    Jackson State quarterback Robert Kent scored on a two-yard run with 2:17 left at the end of 16-play 80-yard drive that gave the Tigers (4-1, 3-1 SWAC E) the come-from-behind win over Southern (3-3, 2-1 SWAC W). The Tigers trailed 14-3 and the half and 21-10 early in the fourth quarter but rallied as Kent hit T. C. Taylor with a 32-yard TD at the 9:30 mark. Kent, who came into the game averaging 394 passing yards per contest, had his worst outing of the season (13-31-3 ints., 169 yards). Freshman RB Carl Singleton had a big day rushing (28 car., 118 yds.) for the Jags but QB Terrence Levy (14-33-2 ints., 173 yds.) struggled. A crowd of 32,746 was on had at Mississippi Memorial Stadium in Jackson.

  • ­ N. C. A& 55, Florida A&M 23
    N. C. A&T (4-1, 2-1 MEAC) broke from a 21-16 lead after three quarters to smother the Rattlers (4-2, 4-1 MEAC) with five fourth quarter touchdowns before a homecoming crowd of 34,726 in Greensboro. A&T QB Damian Phillips (13-24-0, 177 yds.) began the fourth-quarter rout when he scored on a 29-yard option keeper. RB Maurice Hicks (29 car., 169 yds., 3 TDs) then put his stamp on the game with a 78-yard TD romp. After a FAMU score cut the lead to 35-23, tight end Marcus Bryson fielded the Rattlers' on-sides kick and returned it 52 yards for a clinching TD. The Aggies continued to pour it on adding two late TDs. FAMU QB Quinn Gray passed 65 times completing 33 of them for 338 yards without an interception but the Rattlers lost four fumbles.

  • ­FAYETTEVILLE STATE 27, Virginia State 14
    The Fayetteville State Broncos (5-2, 3-1 CIAA W) continued their rise into the upper echelon of the CIAA with a big win at Virginia State (3-3, 2-1 CIAA E). WR Elliot London (5 rec., 176 yds.) hauled in two TD passes (52, 43) from QB Duane Taylor and Taylor (25-15-0, 228 yds.) had three TD tosses on the day in the win. The Broncos held the Trojans scoreless until the fourth quarter in a turnover-free ballgame. QB Kevin Jones completed 20 of 43 passes for 230 yards and one TD for VSU.

  • ­ GRAMBLING STATE 60, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 7
    BCSP #1 Grambling State (5-0, 3-0 SWAC W) scored on 11 of 15 possessions, generated 515 yards of total offense and got six turnovers from their defense to overwhelm Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-2, 1-2 SWAC W). RB Brad Hill rushed for 124 yards and WR Ellis Spears had five receptions for 151 yards and two TDs. GSU placekicker Brian Morgan had four field goals (42, 39, 44, 28) and five PATs to account for 17 points. Grambling has risen to #6 in the I-AA national poll.

  • ­ WINSTON-SALEM STATE 14, N. C. Central 0
    Winston-Salem State (5-2, 3-1 CIAA W) took a big step towards their third straight CIAA championship with a big West Division shutout of North Carolina Central (3-3, 1-2 CIAA W). The Rams scored on a 52-yard fumble return by Dominque Vaughan in the first quarter and added a late clinching TD on John Holloman's 11-yard run with 3:43 to play. Between those two scores the Rams kept NCCU out of the red zone, picking off two passes, recovering two fumbles and limiting the run-oriented Eagles to two yards passing (1-12). LB Dameon Workman had six tackles and all three of the Rams sacks.

  • ­ TENNESSEE STATE 41, Miss. Valley State 3
    BCSP #2 Tennessee State (5-0, 1-0 OVC) completed the black college portion of their schedule undefeated as they easily handled MVSU (0-2, 0-6 SWAC E). Freshman Charles Anthony rushed for 154 yards and a TD. TSU rose to 16th in this week's I-AA poll.
