  • JACKSON STATE 26, Alabama A&M 14
    Sophomore quarterback Robert Kent passed for 438 yards and all four of Jackson Stateās touchdowns (37, 24, 52 and 59 yards) as the Tigers (3-0, 1-0 SWAC E) got a big Southwestern Athletic Confernce East Division win at Alabama A&M (1-3, 1-1 SWAC E). Kent hit four different receivers for scores, T. C. Taylor and Lawrence Story in the first half, Tim Manning and Robert Jacobs in the second half as the Tigers broke from a 14-14 halftime tie while holding the defending E. Div. champions scoreless over the final two periods.

  • BOWIE STATE 14, Virginia Union 8
    The Bulldogs of Bowie State (2-2, 1-1 CIAA E) scored twice in the first quarter and then made the early scores stand up in spoiling the homcoming of defending CIAA East Division champ, Virginia Union (2-2, 2-1 CIAA E). The Bulldog defense had four interceptions, four sacks and two fumble recoveries to stop the Panthers, holding them scoreless in the second half.

  • WINSTON-SALEM STATE 14, Fayetteville State 2
    The stingy defense of WSSU (3-2, 1-1 CIAA W) put the clamps on the FSU (3-2, 1-1 CIAA W) offense while RB John Hollemanās third straight 100-yard rushing effort led the offensive effort as the Rams got a tough win in Fayetteville. Holleman rushed for 132 yards on 34 carries and scored on a five-yard second quarter run that would be all the points the Rams needed. Reserve QB Joshua McGee completed the Ramsā scoring with a 10-yard scoring pass to TE Arnell Wooten just before the half. FSU scored their only points when the Rams, pinned deep in their own territory, decided to step out of the end zone for a safety rather than risk a blocked punt.

  • FLORIDA A&M 53, Howard 20
    FAMU RB Kelsie Lordeus ran for three scores as the Rattlers (3-1, 3-0 MEAC) put up an impressive 261 yards rushing to defeat Howard (1-3, 1-2 MEAC) for the eighth straight time. Two Howard turnovers and two blocked punts led to four Florida A&M touchdowns, including Carl Shazor's 65-yard fumble return. Fl orida A&M had nine sacks and held the Bison to only 12 rushing yards in the first half. FAMU passed for only 134 yards.

  • HAMPTON 31, Delaware State 20
    One week after scoring three touchdowns on punt returns, Hamptonās Zuriel Smith scored the Piratesā first two TDs en route to downing DelState. Smith caught TD passes of 16 and 52 yards as the Pirates (3-1, 2-0 MEAC) jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and survived a fourth quarter Hornet comeback. Hampton got two fourth quarter scores, a 21-yard field goal from Tellis Bolden and a 14-yard scoring toss from QB Ataveus Cash to Michael Compton (7 rec., 160 yds., 1 TD) after DSU pulled to within 21-14 early in final period. Cash finished eight-of ten in passing for 196 yards and had an interception.

  • ALABAMA STATE 71, Johnson C. Smith 6
    Alabama State (1-2, 1-1 SWAC E) put up 589 yards of offense and threw a TD pass midway through the fourth quarter while leading 65-6. QB Darnell Kennedy hit on a 34-yard pass play to Claton Harris with 7:50 left. It was the last of Kennedyās three TD passes. He completed 18 of 25 passes for 284 yards. RB Larry Bias added 213 yards on 14 carries and scored on runs of 45 and 38 yards.

  • FORT VALLEY STATE 31, Alcorn State 16
    FVSU running back Orlando Wiley ran for 203 yards on 38 carries and scored three TDs (5, 2 and 14 yards) and the Wildcats (4-1, 3-0 SIAC) defense forced five turnovers in downing Alcorn State (1-3, 1-1 SWAC E).

  • BETHUNE-COOKMAN 30, Morris Brown 0 QB Allen Suber ran for one TD and hit WR Taji Parrish with scoring strikes in each of the final three quarters (30, 36 and 31 yards) as the Wildcats (3-1, 2-0 MEAC) shut out Morris Brown (0-3).

  • TENNESSEE STATE 20, SE Missouri 14
    QB Shannon Harris completed 27 of 41 passes for 344 yards but the Tigers (3-0, 1-0 OVC) had to survive a first-and-goal from their own one-yard line in the final seconds to come out with a win.
