- McNair Maybe Ready to Re-Sign with Titans
With his seven-year contract set to expire at
the end of this season, former Alcorn State
and Southwestern Athletic Conference record-setting
quarterback Steve McNair appears poised to sign up
for another six years with the NFL's Tennessee Titans.
McNair reportedly has a six-year deal on the
table that could allow him to almost finish his career with
the Titans, the team that drafted him in the first round
(third overall pick) in the 1995 draft.
His agent, James "Bus" Cook, was expected
to meet with McNair this week about the contract just
as the contract was going to Titans' owner Bud Adams
for his approval.
McNair, who led the Titans to the Super Bowl
in the 1999-2000 season, is coming off a year where he
set a career high for completion percentage (62.6%)
and set a new high in touchdown passes with 15. He
rushed for 403 yards last season after leading all
quarterbacks in rushing yards during the 1997 (674 yards) and
1998 (559 yards) seasons. McNair became the Titans'
starter in 1997 and started all 16 games.
McNair's contract is expected to have
povisions that nearly match Titans' running back Eddie
George's deal of last season that paid George a $14
million signing bonus.

- Street & Smith's Black College Football Mag No More
The Street & Smith's Black College
Football magazine will not be published this year.
The company decided earlier this year not
to continue publication of the near 100-page
magazine that debuted in 1998. Officials of the company said
the magazine did sell well enough to continue
publishing the stand-alone edition.
This year, Street & Smith's has included a
19-page special section on black college football in its
regular college football edition which is due out on
newsstands on July 2.
