Coppin Changes
Coppin State College has made some changes in its athletic department staff.
China Jude has been hired as head volleyball coach following the
resignation of Stephanie Ready and Billie
Wilson has been promoted to associated head women's basketball coach.
Jude comes to Coppin after serving as head volleyball coach for two years
at UNC-Wilmington where she accumulated a 9-51 overall record. Prior to her stint
at UNC-W, Jude served as an assistant coach at Rollins College.
The Waukegan, IL native was a four-year starter at
Alabama State University as an outside hitter. She earned
All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honors
as well as team MVP honors twice. Ready resigned from the position but will
continue to serve as an assistant coach for the men's basketball program at Coppin.
Wilson had served the team as an assistant coach for the past three
years while working primarily with the Lady Eagles' post players. As a result of
the promotion, Wilson will relinquish her duties as head softball coach to fully
concentrate on her new position.
- JSU Golfers Struggle, Again
Jackson State men's golf team, the
Southwestern Athletic Conference champions, finished last in the
27-team field at the NCAA Central Regional in Oklahoma City, OK., last week.
The Tigers posted a scores of 333-320-306 over the three rounds to
finish with a total of 959, 76 strokes behind Purdue, Kent State and Oklahoma,
the three teams that led the field with 883 scores. Six teams advanced to the
next round of play.
- A&T Changes
The 2001 Aggie-Eagle Football
Classic between North Carolina A&T
and North Carolina Central has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m.
The eighth annual gridiron classic, originally slated for Sunday, Sept. 2,
will be played at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, NC.
NC A&T also announced that their football game with
South Carolina State, originally scheduled for Nov. 17
at Charlotte's Ericsson Stadium has been moved to the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium
on SCSU's campus. The game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
- Uganda Bound
The Uganda National Council of Sports has named
Bethune-Cookman head track coach Curtis Pittman
as the head coach for its national team. Pittman will be
travelling to the World Games in Edmonton, Canada in August to coach the team. Pittman
also coached the 1989-90 Saudi Arabia National Team in preparation for the
Barcelona Games.
