MEAC (men)
Hampton gets to top of MEAC race Hampton took over sole possession of first place in the
MEAC with a 86-75 home win over NC
A&T Monday. The Pirates' win coupled with
S. C. State's loss across the Chesapeaker Bay
at Norfolk State Monday means the Pirates will play for their first
MEAC regular season championship at home Saturday in their season finale
against Norfolk State. Point guard
Marseilles Brown led the Pirates Monday
with 25 points including six three-pointers. Senior center
Tarvis Williams added 23 points. James Miller
led A&T with 22 points while Bruce Jenkins
had 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Norfolk State 71, SC State
66 Freshman Derrick Smith scored 29 points, hitting on six
of nine three point attempts, and converted a key basket in the final
minute to help NSU upset SC State Monday and send the Bulldogs home 0-for
the Tidewater. John Shivers led SCSU with 19 points.
Hampton 87, SC State
75 Hampton put South Carolina State away with a late 9-0 run and went
on to top the Bulldogs 87-75 before their largest home crowd of the season
(5,025) Saturday. The win allowed the Pirates (13-3 MEAC, 20-5) to tie the Bulldogs
(13-3 MEAC, 16-11) atop the MEAC men's race both with two games left in the
regular season. Four of the five Hampton starters scored in double figures led by
LaSean Howard's 22 and Marseilles Brown's
20 points. Brown also had nine assists.
