What's Going On In and Around Black College Sports
BIRMINGHAM Farmers Insurance Group is now
the title sponsor of the SWAC Football Championship
Game and SWAC Basketball Tournament.
The three-year agreement begins this fall with the
2009 SWAC Football Championship Game on December 12
in Birmingham, AL.
"We are elated to announce Farmers Insurance Group
as the title sponsor for the SWAC Football and
Basketball Championship Events," SWAC Commissioner
Duer Sharp said. "This agreement with our newest corporate
sponsor allows the rich history, tradition and legacy of our
great conference to partner with the one of the nation's
most innovative companies while enhancing the
Championship experience for our student-athletes."
Founded in 1928, Farmers Insurance Group of
Companies is the country's third-largest insurer of both
private Personal Lines passenger automobile and homeowners
insurance, and also provides a wide range of other
insurance and financial services products. Among its many
partnerships, Farmers has been a recent sponsor of the
documentary film "Uneven Fairways", profiling the journey of
African Americans in golf, the Los Angeles Tennis Open, and
the Los Angeles Sparks' WNBA team.
"The title sponsorship means that Farmers is the
'official insurance and financial services provider' of the
SWAC," explained Faye McClure, Farmers Vice President of
Strategic Marketing. "The sponsorship is a Farmers tradition
of reaching out to communities and young students in
today's world and letting them know we support them not only
in athletics, but all that they do academically and in their
future endeavors."
"Inside The Game," with host Stan

scores, replays, highlights, interviews and special segments and
is nationally-syndicated on cable and broadcast stations and
is seen in 30 million television households. The fall season
is a 15-show schedule that runs Sept. 10 through Dec.
20, 2009. The spring season is 11 weeks and runs Jan. 8
