KELLY TO ST. AUGUSTINE'S:
St. Augustine's has announced the appointment of Kristene Kelly as Associate Athletic Director. The former Sports Information Director at Johnson C. Smith will join the Falcon staff in January.

Her responsibilities will include assisting the Athletic Director, George Williams, in providing oversight and supervision in the areas of staffing, team travel, planning and academics; developing the budgets, departmental policies; and serving as sports supervisor for men's basketball, softball, bowling and baseball; and sports information and compliance.

She will also join the college's faculty in the Department of Human Performance and Wellness.

Ms. Kelly received a Bachelors of Science and a Bachelors of Arts Degree from J.C. Smith and a Masters of Science from the University of Tennessee. She is currently completing requirements for a Doctorate of Education Degree at the United States Sports Academy.

WVSU SHIFTS ATHLETICS:
West Virginia State officials have announced that Sean Loyd has been named interim director of athletics. He replaces Robert Parker who has served in the dual capacity of Athletics Director and Vice President for Finance since 2002. Parker will continue in his role as vice president focusing on the school's finances.

Loyd, a former Yellow Jacket baseball student-athlete, is a 1995 graduate of WVSU. He has served as the department's Assistant Director of Athletics since 2003, where he handled day-to-day operations. The Sutton, W. Va. native will also continue his duties as an assistant coach with the highly-successful WVSU baseball program.

WVSU Vice-President for Student Affairs Bryce Casto explained that the Athletic Department had previously been housed under the auspices of Student Affairs from 1988 to 1996. Casto further explained that the move corresponds with President Hazo W. Carter, Jr.'s examination of where athletics best fits in the school's organizational structure in relation to WVSU's relatively new University designation.

HINSON FROM FSU TO JCSU:
Lamont M. Hinson has been named sports information director at Johnson C. Smith effective January 2, 2009.

Hinson comes to JCSU from Fayetteville State where he served as the assistant sports information director since November 2006. Prior to his stint at FSU, Hinson worked as an associate marketing manager at Twin Marketing Incorporated (Doral, Fla.) and then with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) as the player development intern from January-May, 2006.

"JCSU and the athletics department are extremely fortunate to hire Lamont as our sports information director," said Steve Joyner, Sr., athletics director.

SYKES LEAVES VUU:
After serving as Virginia Union's Sports Information Director for two years, Tiffani Sykes has resigned effective January 5, 2009. During her tenure at VUU, she also served one year as the athletic department's Senior Woman Administrator. She has chosen to pursue a master's degree in Sports Administration from Grambling State.

Prior to joining the staff at VUU, Sykes served as the Assistant Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator and Sports Information Director at Saint Paul's from 2002-2006. Sykes also graduated from the NCAA's Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females in the summer of 2007. In addition, she has served as a member of NCAA Regional Ranking Committees for various sports. The Chesapeake, VA native earned her bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance from Virginia State (Petersburg, VA) in 2001.
