Virginia Union coach's contract not renewed
First-year head coach Greg Richardson has been relieved of his duties at Virginia Union, becoming perhaps the first coaching casualty of the 2008 black college football season.

Virginia Union officials have announced last week that his contract will not be renewed. Richardson finishing the season with an overall record of 5-5.

Richardson assumed the top post in March of 2008, following the resignation of former head coach Arrington Jones, III. He was given a contract set to expire in December 2008. Prior to taking over as head coach, Richardson spent five seasons on the sidelines as a member of the VUU coaching staff.

Richardson served as Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. He was also a part of Virginia Union's football staff during the 1997 and 1998 seasons.

JCSU releases head football coach McNeill
Johnson C. Smith University has released head football coach Daryl McNeill effective immediately. The announcement came in a joint statement from new JCSU President Ronald L. Carter and Golden Bull Athletics Director Steve Joyner.

McNeill was in his second stint as JCSU head football coach having completed his fourth season with a 3-7 overall record (2-5 in the CIAA). He became head football coach in December 2004. He also served as associate athletics director.

McNeill was the university's 14th head football coach. He previously served as head football coach during the 1995 and 1996 seasons.

Clark resigns at Fort Valley State
Fort Valley State administrators reached a mutual agreement Monday with head football coach Deondri Clark that he be relieved immediately of coaching duties and reassigned to teaching and staff responsibilities.

Plans call for Clark, who was 18-15 in three years on the job, to assume instructional responsibilities in health and physical education and also play a key role in working directly with students in the Division of Student Affairs. FVSU finished 6-5 this season, 6-3 in the SIAC.

A national search will be undertaken to select Clark's successor. Wilson E. Gossier Sr., FVSU's interim compliance officer, will handle football operations until a new coach is named.
