Jackson State's Tournament MVP Erica Trahan came back from an ankle injury to lead the Lady Tigers past defending champion and top-seed Prairie View in the SWAC title game in Birmingham.

Trahan's 17 points and 12 rebounds were key as second-seeded JSU held off a Prairie View comeback that began when she left the game with 14 minutes left on a sprained ankle and her team up seven. Prairie View scored seven straight points to tie the game and then exchanged the lead six times down the stretch.

Point guard LaSharee Christian controlled the tempo for the Tigers (18-13) getting 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists while playing all 40 minutes. Shavonne Smith had 18 points and Chari Smith 13 to lead the Lady Panthers (22-11).

Tournament MVP Carl Lucas made two clutch free throws with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation to lift second-seeded Mississippi Valley State (18-13) to victory over fourth-seed Jackson State in the SWAC Tournament Championship game in Birmingham.

JSU, who eliminated top-seed Alabama State in the tournament semifinals, trailed 34-26 at the half but fought back to take its first lead at 54-53 on a Darrion Griffin 3-pointer with 1:17 left. MVSU's Standford Speech (6 points) hit one of two free throws with 16 seconds left to leave the Devils trailing 58-57. Lucas was then fouled going to the basket by Jeremy Caldwell and calmly sank both charity tosses.

Chris Watson was the only Delta Devil to score in double-digits, with 10 points. Michael Clark scored nine while Larry Cox and Eric Petty each added eight points and combined for nine rebounds. Griffin scored a game-high 24 points to lead JSU while Caldwell added 11 points and eight rebounds.
