HOW THEY DID IT - Game Recaps

­ Delaware 44, Delaware State 7

Delaware RB Omar Cuff rushed for a school-record 288 yards and four touchdowns (1, 1, 37, 2) as the Hens (9-3) manhandled MEAC champ Delaware State (10-2) in a first round NCAA FCS game. Huff had 199 yards and three TDs as the Hens built a 30-0 halftime lead. The Hornets' only score came on a 19-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter. The DelState offense could never get untracked finishing with just 144 yards to UD's 536.

­ Southern 22, Grambling State 13

Southern shut down the Grambling offense and handed the G-Men (8-3, 8-1) their only SWAC loss of the season before a Super Dome crowd of 53,297 at the Bayou Classic. Southern RB Darren Coates ran 20 times for 107 yards and scored on a one-yard run to open the scoring. Coates added a second first-quarter score on a 10-yard pass from QB Bryant Lee (12-18-1, 120 yds.). The Jags added two Josh Duran fourth-quarter field goals (23, 37) and also blocked a punt thru the end zone for a safety. The early TDs were enough as Grambling managed just 58 rushing yards and scored on TDs in the first and fourth quarters.

­ Tuskegee 64, Alabama State 58, 3 OTs

Tuskegee survived a high-scoring, competitive battle needing three overtimes to subdue Alabama State and complete a perfect 11-0 regular season. TU QB Jacary Atkinson passed for 279 yards (18-29-2) and four TDs (27, 63, 24, 13), the first three to WR Jason English (5 rec., 159 yds.), and ran for 151 yards on 21 carries and another two scores. ASU QB Chris Mitchell (24-39-0, 252 yds. ) matched Atkinson's four TD passes, getting two in the fourth quarter and two in the overtimes. ASU RB Jay Peck rushed for 138 yards and one score while WR Cedric Harris had six catches for 138 yards and two TDs.
