Catawba QB Brad Roach threw for 340 yards and a school-record five TDs, en route to the Indians piling up 643 yards of offense, too much for the Golden Rams (8-3) to overcome in a first round NCAA Div. II playoff game. Behind its ground game, ASU gamely fought back from 14-0 and 21-7 first-quarter deficits to tie the score at 21 midway through the second quarter and trailed just 28-21 at the break. Brian Porter's 84-yard kickoff return for a TD kept the Rams in touch at 31-28 before the Indians scored five straight TDs to break the game open.

Delta State scored on its first five possessions and built a 35-0 lead by early in the second quarter and cruised to an easy win in a first round NCAA Div. II playoff game in Cleveland, Ms.
_ Jackson State 31, Alcorn State 19
RB Lavarus Giles rushed for 146 yards (21 carries) and two TDs (1, 82) and QB Jimmy Oliver passed for 245 yards (17 of 33) and another two scores (24, 35) as Jackson State (7-4, 7-2) clinched the SWAC East title and a berth in the Dec. 15 SWAC Championship Game with a win over Alcorn State (2-8, 2-7).
